Twenty miles in which no mistake is allowed. Slippery bends, altitude changes, and always in a race with time – it’s the great track called the Northern Arc, part of the legendary Nurburgring. To make the best time here is a matter of prestige, mostly for the manufacturers of sports cars.

During the day, the automobile giants lead a “battle” to conquer the Northern Arc or the Green Hell if you prefer, to improve the records. There is no segment where the most valuable performance of the models are not tested, from the smallest ones, with a front or a rear-wheel drive, with so many horsepowers to the beasts that certainly attract the greatest attention.

What are the fastest cars on Nurburgring?

Mercedes-AMG GT-R, Time: 7: 10.92 minutes
The most brutal version of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car with an additional R-index was presented at the Goodwood Speed Festival in 2016. Under the hood is the same 4.0-liter V8 engine with 2 turbochargers, which develops 462 hp for the GT version and 510 hp in GT S. For the R-performance, the engine is powered up to 585 hp and the maximum torque is increased to 700 Nm. T Mercedes-AMG R’s distinctive look is thanks to the grille, the fixed wing, the increased front air intakes, the different front bumper and the rear diffuser. Accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds and the maximum speed is 318 km / h. All this did not help the body to “get off” under 7 minutes on the Northern Arc. On December 7, 2016, Mercedes-AMG GT-R scaled 7: 10.92 minutes. This achievement is likely to be enhanced by the future super-performance of the Germans, known as Project One.

Nissan GT-R Nismo N-Attack, Time: 7: 08.68 minutes
Even the newest rear-wheel-drive projectile of the Mercedes-AMG did not manage to reach the record time of 2013, set by the Nissan GT-R. The Japanese have several improvements in the sleeve. The most important improvments are the four-wheel drive system and the extra package N Attack, which was then offered on the GT’s GT-R for an extra charge. This Nissan GT-R Nismo N-Attack is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 with 2 turbochargers, forcing up to 592 hp. Beside more powerful engine, the vehicle has a gearbox, a titanium exhaust system, as well as a new adjustable suspension with Ohlins shock absorbers. This allows the vehicle to achieve a time of 11 seconds better than that of the standard GT-R.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 SV, Time 6: 59,73
For every manufacturer of the super model that comes to the Green Hell, the goal is 7 minutes. Very few of the serial machines achieved something better. Lamborghini succeeded that with their coupe Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce, which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015. The company announced it will release 600 copies of this model, which is quite enough to get the title of the “serial production model.” Compared to the standard Aventador, this 6.5-liter V12 is powered by 700 to 750 hp, and thanks to the carbon, its weight is reduced by 50 kg, the aerodynamics is reworked, the steering wheel and the suspension are almost doubled, all of which allow the LP 750-4 SV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, and The maximum speed exceeds 350 km / h. Exactly such “Lambo” made 6: 59.73 minutes for a round on May 18, 2015, on Nurburgring. To feel the difference, we need to emphasize that the standard Aventador with 700 hp is 26 seconds slower.

Porsche 918 Spyder Time: 6: 57.00
The hybrid 918 Spyder is the fastest “civilian” Porsche in history, so it will certainly not miss the challenge of the Green Hell. Its atmospheric 4.6-liter V8 engine develops 608 hp, and each axle is fitted with an electric motor. Finally, it produces a power of 887 hp and 1280 Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 351 km / h. On September 4, 2013, the car with a value of 1.082.300 euros was able to record a time of 6: 57.00 minutes per round – which was the best record for several years. The record is set for the version with an additional Weissach package, thanks to the hypercolla which is 30 kg lighter. Just for an explanation – this package costs 90,000 euros – the same as a Porsche 911.

Lamborghini Huracan Perfomante, Time: 6: 52.01
If we need to be more precise, the record of the Porsche 918 Spyder was the best until October 5, 2016, when it was out passed by the team of Lamborghini. The German hegemony was broken by Huracan in the Performante version, and the achievement was confirmed only in the spring of this year. The new best time among the serial cars is 6: 52.01 minutes. The Huracan Perfomante itself is equipped with the most powerful V10 engine in the company’s history. It develops 640 hp and 600 Nm, and is combined with a four-wheel drive system and a revamped robotized transmission. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h lasts 2.9 seconds, and this is due to a series of other improvements. The main one is a unique system for active aerodynamics ALA, which includes rear anti-wing with electronic elements, which control the air flow. The closing of some of them not only increases the suppression force but also ensures stability in the curves. The idea is not new and comes from the Formula 1 car, but a standard car is used for the first time.

Now, the competitors who can’t see Lamborghini at the top of the list are on the move. No matter how fast Huracan Perfomante is, the Nürburgring challenge is huge and the battle for supremacy will never end.
