Have you ever wondered what’s the president’s limo like? How safe it is and what makes it safe? If you’re not familiar with it, allow us to introduce you the Cadillac limousine aka “The Beast” tasked with transporting America’s chief executive.
The pictures below were taken during President Barak Obama was in charge but still, it’s the same limo for each president. We don’t know if President Donald Trump is much of a car guy, but we do know that he now rides around in one of the most exclusive automobiles on the planet.
Not much is actually known about the President’s limo – The Beast.
It’s called “The Beast,” but it might surprise you to learn that this massive Cadillac isn’t really a Cadillac. And there’s not one, but a dozen, in the highly-classified motor pool, each costing more than $1 million. The president has 12 identical limos in rotation and, when not in use, they’re parked in the basement of the Secret Service’s headquarters and are under 24-hour surveillance.
The limos travel with their own mechanic, an armed federal agent who carries a vast arsenal of tools and electronic diagnostic devices. The Secret Service decided to design and build the car starting with the basics. They say that the car may say Cadillac, but on the other hand, very little in that car is Cadillac. Even the Cadillac emblems on the hood and trunk are supersized although it was built by an R&D arm of General Motors in Detroit.
The president’s limo is actually a truck that looks like a limo. And it drives like one, too.
The Beast is a moving fortress impenetrable by bullets and bombs. At least two cars travel with the president wherever he goes. The presidential vehicle is surrounded with up to 40 other vehicles like local police, a mobile communications center, an identical decoy and an ambulance.
The cars have a gasoline V8 engine. The top speed and weight is classified, as is the bulletproof technology used in the windows. A few secrets and specifications have leaked out over the years. Of the information that has been made public, this is what we know about Cadillac One, Limo One or… The Beast.
