BMW i8 Hybrid is one of those cars that every lover of the Bavarian Automotive giant would like to have in his own garage. BMW i8 is a “plug-in” hybrid super sports car that has three-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo engine with a petrol engine with an output of 231 hp (170 kW) and maximum torque of 320 Nm.
BMW i8 Hybrid has an electric motor with 131 hp (96 kW ) and maximum torque of 250 Nm, with lithium-ion batteries (5,2 kWh).
The combined power of the hybrid system is 362 hp (266 kW), while the maximum torque is 570 Nm. Numbers say they are enough for the “BMW i8” to reach a speed of 62 mph in less than 4.4 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 mph.
The electric autonomy of “BMW i8” is 37 km, and with using the electric motor only, the maximum speed is 250 mph. The battery charging, depending on the charging method, takes two to three hours.
As a concept, this model was presented at the 2009 Motor Show in Frankfurt, while the serial version was introduced in 2013. Global sales began in January. BMW have sold 2170 copies of the i8. Its cost is little more than 100,000 euros.
