This year, at Autosport International show, Devon based sportscar Avatar has officially revealed its first production model Called the Avatar Roadster. The production version is a wide reworking of the prototype with over 100 changes. The prototype made its debut at the same show last year.

The Avatar Roadster uses a 2.0-litre Ford Ecoboost engine with 250bhp and 400Nm of torque.

Thanks to a limited weight of 695kg, it works out at 360bhp per tonne. It hits 0-62mph within four seconds, while the top speed is a claimed 145mph.

What’s more exciting about this car is that above the 2.0-litre version is sitting an even more potent machine. The 2.3-litre Avatar Roadster model is also set to go on sale, having its engine borrowed from the new Ford Focus RS hot hatch.

In this model, there’s no weight disadvantage – the same 695kg weight remains. The 350bhp on tap equates to a power to weight ratio of 500bhp per tonne and 0-62mph is dealt within 3.6 seconds. The top speed is climbing to 165mph. There’s more torque available as well, with 440Nm.

As standard, the six-speed manual gearbox is sourced from Ford and found in the Focus RS. In spite of this, an optional seven-speed sequential operated by paddles is available.

It’s one of few race cars inspired features on the Roadster, such as the offset driving position, composite bodywork, and options such as a full roll cage, data logger, plumbed-in fire extinguisher and a large rear wing.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provide more no-cost options for comfort, and as standard you get heating and air conditioning and a roof. The company promises prospective customers plenty of personalized finishing and trim options too. Production of the Avatar Roadster will begin this spring, with prices beginning from £39,990.
