Why do you think Mercedes G-Wagen are so popular in California? Their upright, rugged look is one of the reasons, and the other is because celebrities love to drive them.

Built by Kreisel Electric, this 482-horsepower all-electric custom G-Wagen was made for the Terminator.

The design is over 30 years old so it is clear that it is a notorious gas-guzzler. Now, thanks to Kreisel Electric and Austrian Battery Company, the Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger owns the world’s greenest Wagen. The all-electric model makes 482 horsepower.

Kreisel Electric are known as good engineers of batteries and drivetrain software for electric vehicles. Kreisel also offers custom-built electric cars to customers as an addition to its various standalone systems available. To promote its latest creation, Kreisel asked Schwarzenegger if it could transform his personal Mercedes Wagen into an all-electric car. Of course, Schwarz agreed.

The diesel V6 from Schwarzenegger’s car was removed and replaced with the 80kWh worth of electric batteries placed in the rear, under the hood, where the fuel tank normally sits. It seems that the company removed the factory engine, transfer case, and transmission and replacing them with electric motors that drive the Wagen’s stock axles.

Its power nearly doubled from 245 to 482 horsepower, and 0-60 falls from 8.6 to 5.6 seconds Kreisel says that it even has a 190-mile driving range. Quite good for a 5400-lb. SUV.

Not only can this ride do the off-roading bit its acceleration to match some sports cars too. Power is still transmitted to all four wheels, and hill-climbing ability remains as it was from the original car.

Arnold says the electrified vehicle didn’t disappoint him. To his, he added, with the electric version of this fantastic car, a dream has become true. The first test drive was a real pleasure for him and the Kreisel is incredibly sporty and perfectly benefits from the advantages e-mobility has to offer.

We’d miss the sound of his G63 AMG’s twin-turbo V8 engine, but there’s no denying this electrified G-Wagen as cool as a Tesla can be.
