2017 Audi Spyder is a 540 horsepower drop-top R8.
It is not really a surprise that Audi builds a Spyder version of the R8. It unveiled the 540 hp 2017 R8 Spyder at the New York Auto Show.
It uses the same naturally aspirated 5.2 liter V10 as the as the R8 V10 Coupe. The engine is capable of making 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. The R8 drop top costs $176,350 and will do 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Its top speed will be 198 mph.
The power is routed through all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It’s worth mentioning that the cheapest RWD Huracan you can buy is priced at $200,000.
Why we’ve mentioned the Huracan? Well, when it comes to specs and price, everything is worth mentioning and comparing. The RWD Huracan Spyder makes the same torque as the R8 but has higher horsepower output, 572 hp to Audi’s abovementioned 540 horses.
Besides the slightly cooler look, the performance specs are almost the same. The RWD Huracan Spyder hits 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 198 mph. The AWD Huracan Spyder, for instance, with its 5.2-liter V10 spitting out 602 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque is much more powerful. It hits 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph. It’s cool, but it costs $100,000 more than the Audi R8 Spyder.
Anyway, those who are willing to spend $176k on a convertible supercar it’s hard to believe that the extra $25,000 for more power and cooler looks would be a deal-breaker.
